Education Programme AdvisorPat Falvey Foundation 2008 - Apr 2011Worked with the Irish Adventurer and Entrepreneur Pat Falvey to develop international educational projects based around adventure learning contexts. In February 2008 shortly after returning from his successful South Pole expedition, Pat Falvey under his Corporate Social Responsibility Charter, established the Education Programme which seeks to use “adventure learning” to create awareness of global issues and to encourage active citizenship in young people. Science and technology were used extensively to demonstrate their utility in solving these issues and as potential career paths for students. The primary focus of the Education Programme was to empower the youth of today using adventure based learning projects like "Students on Antarctica" which combined real science/investigation and real adventure integrated in to the curriculum. This programme culminated in an expedition to Antarctica in which a group of 6 Second-level Students (chosen from schools throughout Ireland including three from disadvantaged areas), several research scientists and the polar explorer Pat Falvey travelled to Antarctica in November 2008 for three weeks to experience the continent at first hand while undertaking numerous scientific studies. -
