The HAMRAH Initiative addresses the significant challenges faced by Afghan Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in exile by strengthening the resilience and impact of these CSOs, particularly women-led organisations. As the Director, I am responsible for the strategic development, oversight, and implementation of HAMRAH. On a day-to-day basis, my responsibilities include overseeing the effective execution of the initiative, managing team coordination, and providing vision and strategic communication. I ensure compliance with donor requirements and conduct risk assessments. This role demands managing and coordinating a cohort, fostering collaborations within the cohort, and building partnerships across the sector. This includes liaising with civil society networks, government entities, and donors to broaden our global impact. Using Afghanistan and our partner cohort as a pilot, we assess the potential for establishing a global network of exiled CSOs. This network aims to promote solidarity, enhance partnerships, improve resource sharing, and elevate the voices of exiled organisations worldwide.

Advised OSF's core programming team on the execution of the $10 million Humanitarian Emergency Fund, providing guidance regarding strategies and primary concerns for work conducted by the Fund and assisting in reviewing and evaluating the feasibility of projects and prospective partnerships.

Pioneered and led the establishment of Afghanistan's first policy lab which centred on conducting experimental research, policy modelling, and behavioural insights to propose innovative policies and develop, pilot and scale programmes. My responsibilities encompassed providing visionary and strategic leadership, pioneering and managing innovative experimental research, building organizational capacity, and overseeing stakeholder management. At the Lab, we embraced a multi-disciplinary approach to address Afghanistan’s development and humanitarian challenges. In its inaugural year, the Lab managed a number of research projects and a programme pilot from USAID-Office of Transitional Initiative and GIZ. This included a political economy analysis of existing community structures and institutions, and developing a pilot project aimed at enhancing community oversight and ownership of aid delivery processes.

Oversaw the assessment of the justice system's development in Afghanistan. Identified best practices, initiated intervention programmes, and donor engagement which led to securing $10 million in funding from Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement to support judges and prosecutors.

Led a comprehensive political economy analysis of an EU-funded project centred on the rule of law and police reform; identified strategic entry points and presented programme recommendations for reforming Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior. This analysis involved a detailed mapping of key stakeholders, a thorough assessment of risks and bottlenecks, and a rigorous evaluation of potential impacts on future project interventions.

Led a team of local researchers and consultants, while actively representing the organization in high-level policy advocacy engagements in Afghanistan and various Western capitals. Nurtured productive partnerships with stakeholders to shape key policies, generating evidence and influencing policymakers in Washington, London, Brussels, and other donor capitals. Offered novel perspectives on matters concerning Afghanistan, including its humanitarian crisis.
