About Timor Sharan

With over 15 years of professional experience, my career has been dedicated to improving the lives of deprived communities through innovative programme design and management, impact assessment, qualitative and quantitative research, and policy advocacy and analysis. I have consistently demonstrated robust leadership skills by effectively overseeing multi-million-dollar projects for distinguished international donors and developmental organisations, including USAID, The Asia Foundation, and the International Law and Development Organisation (IDLO). In recent years, driven by a keen interest in the transformative power of behavioural insights, I established the Afghanistan Policy Lab — the country’s pioneering policy lab to spearhead experimental research, conduct pilot studies and programmes, and formulate groundbreaking policies to tackle Afghanistan’s most pressing issues. My commitment to making a difference stretches beyond my professional career. I serve on the board of several organisations, including Too Young To Wed (TYTW) and the Khedmat Development and Learning Organisation. In 2015, I founded Khedmat, an initiative aimed at empowering underserved youth through leadership and education, with a special focus on advancing girls' education. Beyond my professional activities, rug weaving offers me a peaceful retreat, fueling my creativity and passion for artistic expression.

Listed skills include Policy Analysis, Research, International Development, Qualitative Research, and 22 others.

Global Dialogue

United Kingdom

Director - Hamrah Initiative

The HAMRAH Initiative addresses the significant challenges faced by Afghan Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in exile by strengthening the resilience and impact of these CSOs, particularly women-led organisations. As the Director, I am responsible for the strategic development, oversight, and implementation of HAMRAH. On a day-to-day basis, my responsibilities include overseeing the effective execution of the initiative, managing team coordination, and providing vision and strategic communication. I ensure compliance with donor requirements and conduct risk assessments. This role demands managing and coordinating a cohort, fostering collaborations within the cohort, and building partnerships across the sector. This includes liaising with civil society networks, government entities, and donors to broaden our global impact. Using Afghanistan and our partner cohort as a pilot, we assess the potential for establishing a global network of exiled CSOs. This network aims to promote solidarity, enhance partnerships, improve resource sharing, and elevate the voices of exiled organisations worldwide.
