The Emerging Administrators Academy (Emerging AD), is the brainchild of veteran collegiate administrator, Tim Duncan. Duncan, Deputy Athletics Director, External Affairs at Northeastern. Prior to entering Intercollegiate Athletics, Duncan spent 11 years working directly for or with Fortune 500 Companies including Russell Athletic, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, International Paper, Dell, and Verizon Wireless. Founded in 2012, Emerging AD was created to provide a path for executives outside of athletics looking to start a new career serving student-athletes as college administrators. The first Emerging AD was held in July 2013 at the Atlanta Buckhead Marriott Convention Center. Held annually, Emerging AD attracts a diverse group of attendees with an intentional focus to keep each cohort at a 3:1 participant to instructor ratio to provide a deeper and more meaningful experience for everyone. Tim Duncan was named the University of New Orleans' Director of Athletics in late April 2019. Duncan joined the Privateers after a year as the deputy athletic director for external affairs at Northeastern University in Boston.Introduced at a press conference April 30, Duncan is in his first year as the leader of Privateer Athletics.Within Northeastern University's 18-sport NCAA Division I program, the Memphis native oversaw the external affairs unit, comprised of communications, corporate sponsorships, fundraising, marketing and game day experience, ticket sales and operations, and video production. During his tenure, donations, corporate partnerships and ticket revenue have all increased. In October, Duncan spearheaded a marketing campaign known nationally at #HowlinHuskies, a rebranding of the Northwestern Athletics logos package. Prior to his time at Northeastern, Duncan worked exclusively in the South. He was director of athletics at Division II Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia from 2014-2018. He also served as director of athletics at Paine College, a Division II HBCU located in Augusta, Georgia, from 2011-2014. He was previously an associate athletics director at Division I University of North Carolina Wilmington overseeing the Seahawk Club and the executive director of the M Club, an athletic alumni organization at the University of Memphis. Prior to entering college athletics administration, Duncan spent 11 years as a marketing professional.Duncan holds a bachelor's of business administration in marketing from Memphis State (now Memphis) and a master's in sports administration from Grambling State. He played four years of college basketball at Memphis.

Served as the administrative leader of the External Affairs unit of an 18 sport, NCAA Division I program with over 350 student-athletes in the uber-competitive Boston metro market. The External Affairs unit is comprised of six key functional areas (Communications, Corporate Sponsorships, Fundraising, Marketing and Game Day Experience, Ticket Sales and Operations, and Video Production).

Served as the face of Clayton State University Athletics in the South Atlanta Metro Area (South Fulton, Clayton, Henry, and Fayette Counties) and beyond. Led an 11 sport Athletic Department comprised of 150 Student-Athletes, a staff of 25 coaches and administrators, with an annual budget of approximately $2.4 Million.

Effectively managed a department of 250 student-athletes in 10 athletic programs with 25 staff members and an annual budget of $3.5 million. Reported directly to the President, was a member of President’s Administrative Council and provided semi-annual presentations to the Board of Trustees.

Managed relationships of 50-100 prospective donors and was responsible for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals with the capability to make gifts of $25,000 and above. Worked very closely with University Advancement and provided prospect strategy counsel to the Director of Athletics, the University Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of Advancement. • Re-secured a $500,000 gift and secured a $50,000 gift within the first month in new responsibility• Cultivated and solicited a $250,000 gift for improvements to Trask Coliseum• Developed and implemented the Champions Fund, a discretionary fund for the Director of Athletics to utilize for unbudgeted items• Active member of the Athletics’ Strategic Plan (Steering & Working Committees)

My responsibilities for UNCW include leading a team which oversees the annual fund (Seahawk Club), major gifts (capital campaigns & endowments), marketing and tickets.

Managed the Student Aid Association (Seahawk Club), the non-profit foundation for the Department of Athletics. Oversaw External Operations and managed seven (7) people in the following business units: Development, Marketing, Corporate Sales and Service, Tickets, and the Seahawk Shop (athletics retail store).

PRstore is a retail franchise marketing/advertising agency specifically designed for small businesses.

• Served as primary new business development officer• Developed strategic event plans for Fortune 500 companies to accomplish their Marketing Objectives• Established Event Marketing processes and controls for successful project execution

I taught Finance & Economics in Sport to undergraduate Sport Management majors.

I had the opportunity to work in several positions at RJR inlcuding: sports marketing assistant where I worked on NASCAR and NHRA for the Winston Brand: assistant manager, where I worked on the Camel Club Program and planned and managed events in 53 cities; and finally as a Lifestyle Marketing Manager, where I managed a $13 million start-up program for the Salem Brand

As a Lifestyle Marketing Manager at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, • Managed start-up $13 million Event Marketing program, including, 2 creative agencies and 2 event agencies • Acquired 1 Million adult consumer names for the Salem Brand database• Successfully managed production of 51 high profile tour events
