I am the Haslam Chair in Business and Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee.My research focuses on the social construction of entrepreneurial market environments, particularly the initial public offerings (IPO) market. I consider how freputation, celebrity, status, media accounts, and power influence IPO firm performance, survival, alliance formation activities, and executive recruitment and compensation. I am also interested in how entrepreneurs' strategic decision making.I was an Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Journal from 2010-2013. I also co-edited two books, The Oxford Handbook of Corporate Reputation (2012) and Corporate Reputation: Critical Perspectives on Business and Management (2015), with Mike Barnett of Rutgers University. I am currently a member, or have been a member, of the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Journal of Business Venturing and Strategic Organization. I also served on the Executive Committee for the Organization Science Division of INFORMS from 2006-2010 and as a Representative-at-Large on the Executive Committee of the Organization and Management Theory Division of the Academy of Management from 2006-2009. I am also an International Research Fellow at Oxford University's Centre for Corporate ReputationAt Haslam I teach an undergraduate course on managing start-ups, and doctoral seminars on organization theory and academic writing.
