About Tim Leonard

The first code I ever wrote was for a video game review website hosted on Geocities, back in the bad old days of table-based layouts. Currently, I work at Epoxy.ai, where I am a full stack developer and collaborate with a team of experienced engineers to create personalization tools in the sports betting space. While there, I gained experience building scalable web applications with AWS. I have been enjoying getting my hands dirty with cloud native architecture. Previously, I worked at 21PSTEM, a non-profit specializing in education technology for STEM classrooms. There, I worked directly with educators and researches to build applications for use in math classes. That work tied in well with my own history as an educator and public school teacher.I began my journey as a self-taught web developer. To hone my skills, I took part in projects with chingu.io, where I was grouped with other web developers across the world to build projects together. In an earlier life, I was a public school teacher in Warren Township, NJ, where I taught instrumental music, and a freelance cellist in New York City.Skills: TypeScript, AWS, React, Redis, MongoDB, SQL, Ember.jsI am also an avid rock climber, shape note singer, mycologist, and Seinfeld fan.

We have entered into agreements with some of the largest operators in the industry, delivering client widgets, APIs, dashboards, and a host of other services. Some highlights:• Develop ETL pipelines and APIs with AWS solutions to ingest thousands of records per second and support up-to-the-moment data for live sporting events.• Model data from non-standardized sources in order to feed data to ML and LLM• Implement end-to-end features based on customer feedback
  • 21Pstem
    Full Stack Developer
    21Pstem May 2021 - Mar 2022
    Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, United States
The 21st Century Partnership for STEM Education is a nonprofit in Conshohocken, PA that specializes in pedagogy research and designing tools for teachers to use in the classroom. At 21PSTEM, I worked on the EnCOMPASS project, which aims to foster collaboration among math students by giving them a platform to comment and ask questions about their peers' work. While working at 21PSTEM, I gained invaluable experience as a full stack developer. My job responsibilities included maintaining and updating a legacy project, setting priorities for the project and turning them into actionable work items, and designing UX for new features implementing those designs. Probably the biggest obstacle at this job was familiarizing myself with a new stack that included an unfamiliar frontend framework (Ember.js). Other highlights:• Reduced deploy time 20% by migrating from Ember 2 to Ember 3 and introducing deploy scripts.• Eliminated all major bugs by fixing and updating test suite.• Assisted with mitigating security risks, like adding TLS.• Designed dashboards for researchers to visualize hundreds to thousands of data points.

Before my life as a software engineer, I played cello for money. I was involved in a variety of settings: traditional chamber music, new music, musical theater, orchestral music, pop and rock music, TV, and radio. And yes, I did weddings and parties! Feel free to ask me more about that part of my life.
  • Warren Township Schools
    Teacher Of Music
Warren Township Schools May 2013 - Jun 2015
    Warren, Nj
Along with one other teacher, I was in charge of the strings and band programs of the four elementary schools in Warren, NJ. We scheduled events and planned lessons to adhere to district, state, and national standards. I am most proud of:• Expanding the performance schedule to include early-Fall performances by beginner students, reducing enrollment drop-off after the holiday break• Arranging new works for strings students which were then subsequently brought back by popular demand of later students• Scheduling a self-directed performance, in which students decided the venue and repertoire for the show
