 Directed litigation and prevailed as a matter of law in defense of two wrongful death actions. Successful defense of $50 million policy prevented adverse and costly liability exposure and policy implications for nearly 2,500 airports nationwide. Developed argument and drafted briefs in trial court to defeat claims of “educational malpractice” in wrongful death cases. As an issue of first impression, the Illinois Appellate Court affirmed finding that claims of educational malpractice are not cognizable in Illinois.  Successfully defended a French manufacturer in a four-year personal jurisdiction challenge, becoming the first personal jurisdiction issue before the Illinois Supreme Court in 25 years. Drafted briefs that ultimately redefined the scope of all court orders granting voluntary dismissals in the Circuit Court of Cook County.  Established a compliance regime for carrier’s reporting requirements under the Medicare Secondary Payer Act, thereby protecting client from potential double damages. Researched, drafted and argued a winning motion to dismiss negligence and wrongful death claims against a self-insured parachute equipment manufacturer.  Prepares comprehensive insurance coverage opinions for major commercial airports nationwide for property and casualty policies up to $100 million. Negotiates settlements, and drafts complex settlement agreements and releases. Supervises and manages local counsel, junior attorneys, paralegals and law clerks. Drafts comprehensive status reports for carriers and insured clients. Prepares and ensures compliance with litigation and trial budgets for the firm.
