I joined Pace as a senior software engineer working on Set Top Box development forONdigital. I worked across a number of areas of the box including DVB Subtitles,Demux, Flash driver and performance optimisation (resolving cache related bugs toallow the data cache to be used, and hand optimising assembly for some key graphicsoperations). I went on to lead the software team developing the first UK Freeview STB and subsequently the first Freeview PVR. Requirements capture, design, day to day technical leadership and line management for a team of 6 engineers.I then moved to a project management role, where I spent significant time working in the Pace France office in Grenoble - leading the development of a STB for Kabel Deutschland.

I worked as part of a team desigining a parallel DSP for video processing applications.As a student I was part of the team developing, maintaining and analysing test cases onsimulaitons of the DSP. Typically developed in assembly language (for a master RISCCPU and multiple DSP processing units) The tests were designed to identify faults inthe implementation of the chip. Much of my time was spent analysing the floating pointmaths (IEE 754) implementation and corner cases in e.g. rounding modes.
