Toward the end of my time with Louisville Metro Government, I was successful in changing the name of my division to the Office of Financial Empowerment. My team covered microenterprise development and support; coordination and provision of financial education for both the public and for nonprofit case managers; the Bank On Louisville initiative, the KYBankOn Network, the WATER project (pilot program partnering with the Louisville Water Company), the Workforce Development/Financial Empowerment Integration Collaborative, the Family Economic Success Network, and the Financial Empowerment Provider Network. I developed working relationships with CFED (Corporation for Enterprise Development), Credit Builders Alliance, National Disability Institute, and National League of Cities. And from 2012 until my leaving, I represented Mayor Greg Fischer on the Cities for Financial Empowerment coalition. Other programs coordinated by team members included the administration of funding and monitoring of 80+ nonprofits; the Office for Women and the Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens; and the RSVP team.
