Director Of Software Engineering
Director of Software Engineering 2008 – 2019Senior Software Engineer 2005 – 2008Software Engineer 2001 – 2005Managed 5 software developers and testers on many medical laser projects, while also working as an individual contributor to software architecture, design and coding. Wrote and coordinated Test Plans/Cases and release documents.• Designed, coded (C) software required for medical lasers using a PIC 16-bit processor and RTOS. This controlled HVPS, serial communication drivers, DAC’s, A/D’s, stepper motors, and PWM devices. • Controlled a stepper motor optical attenuator to stabilize laser energy by relating step position to energy errors. The energy measurements are filtered using Boxcar and noise rejection techniques.• Implemented calibration routines that use piece-wise linear least squares regression to relate laser pulse energy to an optical attenuator motor position. This compensated for bad pulses, unstable laser energy, and a slightly non-linear relationship.• Managed and coordinated with other departments a software security upgrade project on four products simultaneously. Software changes and release of all products met tight timeline.• Rewrote software requirements, reducing from 1000 to 400 and moved inappropriate implementation details to design document. Reduced design documentation and minimized software validation testing.• Applied risk-based approach to reduce software verification, prioritizing software features and functionality that changed based on function importance, risk severity and occurrence. Regression tests ensure overall performance. Reduced software testing time while still providing coverage.• Improved Software Design Life Cycle. Added Software Safety Classification to Risk Analysis, separated out V&V tests. SDLC complies to IEC-62304 and test documents are easier to prepare.
