As a real estate agent since 2002, I have been to a lot of closings. This particular time, I was sitting across the table from my clients and they were ecstatic with excitement. We were closing on their new home! Even in their excitement, their hands grew tired as paper after paper was put before them that required yet another one of their signatures. Chuckling, I said, “Can’t you tell that we are now a paperless society?” They responded with laughter. I gazed upon the scene before me, piles, inches deep with paper, all for an original signature. It seemed to me that the amount of paper that we use has only increased during this age of technology, and has not decreased at all. It was then that I said, “We killed another tree.” I have been noticing this for years and have honestly even made this joke with my clients at closing, numerous times. But this was the first time that a thought popped in my head. What if I gave back, what if I planted a tree every time I closed a home? I then said it out loud and my clients thought it was a great idea. That is where it started. A simple thought.We USE trees and therefore we need to REUSE what we are able to and then we must RENEW our resources so that our children have a world that is better than ours. PLANt for the Future allows us to unify our voice in this effort so that can focus our efforts.From that seed, PLANt for the Future was born.
