After 17 years it was time to sell Sir Grout Franchising LLC to private equity. In the hands of its new owner (Riverside) I’m sure it will continue to flourish. Sir Grout is a differentiated service brand that restores and beautifies hard surfaces. Over the last couple years I’ve been steadily turning over the reigns of my retained original company owned LLC to my son Karl here in Connecticut. Before entering the service world I spent nearly 20 years in the consumer automotive aftermarket most recently as President and CEO of Interdynamics Corporation, served on its Board of Directors and helped lead a turnaround that included bringing in top talent & processes, rightsizing its infrastructure and repositioning some of its product portfolio. Interdynamic's brands are owned by Energizer Batteries today. Before that, as Vice President, International and member of the senior leadership team for Honeywell International’s CPG Group I was responsible for its brands and 13 overseas business units across Asia, Europe and Mexico. In 1994 I was part of the ownership team that led a successful buy-out and subsequent divestiture of Prestone Products Corporation. The business was sold to AlliedSignal which later became known as Honeywell International. While at Honeywell I completed Honeywell’s Executive Development Program and obtained my Green and Black Belts in Six Sigma. What’s next: Besides family time and a healthy dose of golf and kite surfing I look forward to continuing my Journey to Better initiative to help others who are battling a significant health crisis. I also hope I can mentor other leaders/owners who seek guidance to start, build and/or successfully exit their business or perhaps transition their business to a franchise format.
