Undergraduate Intern
This internship was completed for academic credit, logging 250+ hours over the course of the semester as part of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) project team at Centerstone Research Institute (CRI). I complied with SAMHSA federal grant requirements in order to attain funding and designation for Centerstone as a CCBHC: promoting higher-quality, equitable care for community members. I regularly scheduled and conducted client interviews to collect data upon intake and at the 6-month and 12-month intervals regarding quality of life and perception of care. By administering national outcome measure (NOM) questionnaires, I was able to gain critical insight into the relationships that exist between substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders and mental health outcomes at baseline and follow-up. From an epidemiological perspective, I was able to measure the distribution of chronic diseases within the context of local populations, while becoming familiar with community health agency operations and healthcare within the nonprofit sector.Upon final evaluation, I presented an analysis of key variables affecting patient retention and highlighted the efficacy of intern involvement throughout the spring semester.
