Hello! I like to introduce myself as lawyer by trade and a PhD student by coercion. Obtaining my PhD is my final higher education goal. I have always wanted to work in higher education and knew this was the opportunity to hone in on my teaching and research skills. As I was finishing my Judicial Clerkship my mentor reached out with the opportunity to complete that final goal.During my legal career, I worked mainly in the Juvenile Justice System focusing on diversion, dependency, and delinquency. I have worked in specialty courts focusing on cases involving the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), At-Risk Youth Services, and Abuse and Neglect. I am pursuing my PhD in criminology/Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My focus is failed permanency, secondary and vicarious trauma in the legal system, and the impact of exposure to domestic violence.I also focus on inadequate firearms background checks pertaining to individuals who have juvenile records; as well as commercial sexual exploitation of children.
