The RISE Fellows Program is a partnership between RISE San Diego and University of San Diego. It uses an adaptive leadership approach that requires active engagement and deep reflection. The program focuses on the personal and professional development of each Fellow through intensive forums, development and implementation of a self-selected community project, and coaching and peer learning throughout the fellowship year.

The Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools Servant Leader Interns are responsible for the front-line care and nurturing of the children. Using the Integrated Reading Curriculum, they serve as facilitators in the classroom and as leaders of parent workshops and community outreach activities.• Deliver the Integrated Reading Curriculum to a 6th and 7th grade class of thirteen students for 6 weeks during the summer months.• Established and maintain a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment for the students to ensure their academic growth.• Serve as a leader each day of program operation, activities, and other special events; chaperon field trips.

• Planned and facilitated weekly group meetings for a freshman dormitory that discussed balancing life, stress relief, reflection, and prayer for dorm residents by encouraging community building activities.• Organized and facilitated monthly self-care events for the resident assistants (RA) in the dormitory that encouraged the RA’s to always make time to take care of their selves.
