About Daniel W.

Dr. Daniel is specialized in hydrology and water resources engineering, mainly focusing on the effect of anthropogenic changes on the functioning and sustainability of water resources (both surface and groundwater). In this regard, Dr. Daniel has extensive experience in research at variable scales including catchment scale runoff monitoring, topographic measurement, surface and subsurface field condition measurement and analysis using variable invasive and non-invasive geophysical methods (ERT) and Environmental modeling. Dr. Daniel is also experienced in laboratory analysis of soil physical and solute chemical properties and compositions as well as numerical modeling of topographic elements coupled with various terrain analyses and modeling softwares aided by Remote Sensing and GIS. Dr. Daniel has over 10 years of progressive experience in the industry working in government, academia and multilateral organizations in a multiethnic environment. Dr. Daniel, as a Principal investigator and researcher with the United Nations University, led the UN-CECAR groundwater study projects in Northern Sri Lanka. The project focused on sustainable groundwater potential assessment using a numerical modeling technique (MOD FLOW) for sustainable exploitation of the groundwater resource both for irrigation and other domestic and industrial uses. Dr. Daniel is interested in pursuing a career in global climate change and its associated effect on water resources and sustainable ecological functions and developments. Dr. Daniel is also interested in interdisciplinary research at the interface of natural and social sciences involving policy issues for a coordinated sustainable development of the limited fresh water resources.
