Founder

Toby founded the design and brand strategy company Toby etc. with a belief that 'good design' emanates from the observation of fractal patterns found in nature. And creating teams of like-minded thinkers, who share a common purpose. Through a creative and multi-disciplinary approach, TOBY etc. works with international brands to help identify and enhance their brand essence. Amplifying their brand narrative through their products and storytelling to create loyal consumers. As a hands on practitioner, Toby ensures each creative element reflects the brand's core values and aligns with its sense of identity. Fostering a brand environment the brand's consumers feel emotionally drawn to and invested in.Rather than seeking to deliver profits alone, TOBY etc. aims to do social good, by working with meaningful impact, connecting nature~to~industry and consumers~to~makers to deliver holistic outcomes that drive a brand's eco-system.Service:Design ~ Creative Direction ~ Curation ~ Brand Strategy ~ Brand Identity ~ Brand AuditExpertise:Clothing ~ Apparel ~ Garb ~ Attire ~ Vestments ~ Fashion ~ Clobber ~ Kit ~ Garments ~ Textiles ~ Uniform Digital publications ~ Copywriting ~ Storytelling ~ Defining your brand VoiceToby is an Ambassador For The Campaign for Wool (NZ) He is a quiet gentle climate activist but also sometime radical and wore the same clothes everyday for 407 days. Co-Founder

London, United Kingdom

blackhorselane.com- COMMERCIAL PRACTITIONERS WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITH A SHARED VISION AND SCHOOL OF THOUGHT, REFLECTING BAUHAUS PRINCIPLES -As Co-Founder, Toby launched Blackhorse Lane Ateliers factory brand in 2016. This featured the renovation of a 1920s factory building in Walthamstow E17, with BHL benefiting from its own specialist factory of 1,500m2, to provide locally based manufacture of superior quality selvedge denim. The factory incorporated weaving, leather craft, indigo dye, progressive workshops and a fully dining restaurant. This forward thinking concept changed the notion of traditional British manufacturing plants with an uber transparent, open plan factory, enabling consumers to meet and connect with the machinists (the makers). This underlined the provenance of craft and how selvedge jeans are made as opposed to just purchased. The Atelier connected nature to industry by locally growing its own Japanese Indigo plantation on London's oldest allotment. The brand further reflected the importance of protecting the planet's resources by establishing a unique charitable foundation – Think Global, Act Local - providing a modern methodology for community living. The notion of sharing premises formed a key part of the manifesto, with the Ateliers welcoming creatives working across all disciplines – either as a maker or collaborator. As a governing principle, all machinists working in the Atelier benefitted from an employees shareholding scheme providing shares in the limited company. This addressed the often contentious subject of large clothing companies imposing a low minimum wage structure on a factory workforce, to restrict the profitability to a few senior company shareholders.
