In this university spin-out I developed and deployed sensor-based digital solutions for manufacturing SMEs. This required electronics prototyping, working with low-level serial protocols and fault finding. Software development for Raspberry Pi (mostly python3 in docker containers) was a significant part of the role, including creating a tool for procedural assembly and configuration of modules. I regularly led client-facing workshops, technical support clinics, factory visits and produced technical and process documentation.

During the final term of my studies, I carried out an individual 6 week project involving integrating an industrial robotic arm (UR3e) into an established pharmacology automation product. This entailed scoping a specification, designing for a regulated environment, machining and integration, use of pneumatics, implementing a sequencing and control system in Python, a system stress test campaign and analysing performance data. The project culminated with a demonstration, presentation and report.

For two consecutive summers while studying I took internships at the robotics startup BladeBUG, who make robots to assist technicians in the inspection and repair of wind turbine blades.

I worked with a small group of biomedical PhD research students to develop the physical equipment to carry out their research. My collaboration with them came to an end when I was no longer in a position to spend as much time working with them.
