Many of these youth had little to no work experience and possessed various barriers to employment. With life skills facilitation and short skills-based training, I assisted in preparing these youth to have the basic foundational knowledge and skills to enter the workforce. This included workshops in conflict resolution, listening skills, establishing professional boundaries, how to dress for work, as well as having the youth take responsibilities for their own actions. In addition to life skills facilitation and counselling, I assisted in the placement and ongoing job mentoring of the youth as they were placed in a work experience placement with Starbucks Canada for a period ranging from 6 to 15 weeks, where they learned the responsibilities, duties and requirements to become a Starbucks Barista.Furthermore, they were provided employment skills training, including resume and cover letter development to prepare to seek employment in the community. With a success rate of approximately 70% of the youth either returning to complete education and/or obtaining employment (mostly with Starbucks Canada), this was an exciting position. Show less
