As an Intern, I was able to learn about the core skills and responsibilities of managing Operational Risk within the Retail Division of Lloyds Banking Group. This involved: Control Testing /Action Plan Monitoring, Risk Scoring, Risk Profile / Risk Category Reviews, Scenario Analysis / Capital Modelling, Policy Effectiveness, Sourcing (external and internal) and Horizon Risk Scanning. This exposed me to how outputs are presented to a large number of senior stakeholders via Risk Committees, drafting and submitting papers and articulating both successful and challenging messages.

As a sales adviser I was responsible for ensuring high quality customer service, but with a twist. Whether this was through initiatives such as elaborately drop-testing phone cases in front of clients, actively engaging with the customer to get a hands on feel for products or going the extra mile to follow up with the customer after a transaction was complete. Moreover I developed a mobile phone recycling scheme that engaged company management, new and existing customers, as well as local schools and charities. By building awareness amongst colleagues and the public about the value of recycling old devices, I was able to increase old device donations that totalled £400 in the first quarter, which was matched by my employer. I also demonstrated excellent salesmanship skills to harvest new business as well as retain existing loyal customers, as well as time management and organisation balancing my employment commitments with my studies.

Designed and carried out environmental surveys to monitor the movements and behaviour of cetaceans within and outside of 2 Marine Special Areas of Conservation. Spearheaded a successful project to develop a mobile phone application to replace traditional data collection methods, significantly increasing the quality and efficiency of sightings, effort and map data. Led public awareness campaigns informing locals and tourists about the wildlife of the local area and the potential impacts of off-shore development, demonstrating my ability to deliver complex information to non-scientists

Independently organised a research trip for my BSc thesis research project. Conducted an investigation into White Shark behaviour through various life history stages and with respect to environmental variables and the Ecotourism industry.Developed significant skills with statistical analysis in R to identify drivers of certain behaviours. Wrote a well researched and robustly analysed thesis and achieved a 1st class award (75%).
