After seven years in the Mitre 10 and Metcash hardware division (Mitre 10 & Home brands), Toby's trade strategy expanded to annual revenues of $1.2B, exceeding retail revenue. He has directed the customer-focused technology vision for the group and grown support of trade purchases across what has become a specialised 350-store trade network.Supporting independent family-owned businesses through the development of the group’s trade strategy unlocked network value and led to stores becoming the number one channel to the trade market. He launched roll-out plans for many trade initiatives which included training, marketing and sales tools to assist a team of 35 store-focused BDMs and 80+ trade-focused BDMs.Toby connected the needs of trades with trade store leadership and suppliers of building materials. He explored and evaluated many new business opportunities to increase trade expansion, including an integrated trade technology platform, Supply & Install and Whole of House initiatives. He was IHG's conduit to the broader construction industry, developing strategies, opportunities and key relationships with national volume builders, industry associations and partners.

Toby developed the Independent Hardware Group’s trade strategy through unlocking the value of the connected network - a trade model that delivered on DIY and Trade customers expectations.The strategy execution involved working with key trade store members to prioritise strategic initiatives, align strategy pillars and appeal to core trade customer segments. Close relationships were developed with suppliers and industry affiliates to ensure the IHG trade strategy remained current and aligned to our customers current and future requirements. These programs built greater loyalty with trade customers, stores increased trade revenue and IHG business exceeded budgets.

Activities were focused on network mapping, planning and execution of sales strategies to develop the trade network by supporting existing trade members and recruiting branded or unbranded stores. Open communication and targeted marketing tools established a strong working relationship with state leadership and Business Development Managers. As a result of promoting Mitre 10 Trade values, positive impact was evidenced through store purchase levels increasing across the national Mitre 10 network.

Identified, developed and strengthened mutually beneficial opportunities with strategic partners based on value alignment with a customer base covering retail and trade. Delivered enhanced sales and margin growth for Otter and strategic partners through increasing ranging, management of shelf space and targeted promotional execution across hardware, building products, landscaping, plumbing, Woolworths and their consumer facing brands.Develop store and product launch strategy including communication, instore presentation and execution aligned to major retail and trade chains through the field sales teams, including 6 team members under Toby's management nationally.

Identified new, and strengthened existing retail and trade strategic partnerships, aligning the customer base with mutually beneficial opportunities. Strategic partners were in the hardware, building products, landscaping and plumbing sectors. In response to business growth objectives, I successfully implemented profitable new product ranges with Wesfarmers/Bunnings, Woolworths, Metcash, Natbuild, AP&BA, Boral, rural groups and their respective consumer-facing brands.
