I am a USPTO registered patent agent with a PhD in physics from UCSD and a JD from the USD school of law, and I am seeking work in the areas of patent prosecution and patent portfolio development. I have an extensive background in science and technology as well as research and design in the areas of physics, computational methods, and material sciences including mechanical and electrical engineering. After the Navy, I earned a PhD in physics with a focus on growing rare earth compounds and measuring their physical properties. Along the way, I built refrigerators that can reach milli-kelvin temperatures, designed circuits to measure a material’s behavior under controlled environments, and programmed software to analyze and display large data sets. As a product engineer, I maneuvered inventions from conception to manufacture. I designed, built, and tested the prototype mechanical parts and electrical systems for a variety of machines. I lead a team of mechanical and electrical engineers and computer programmers to tune and optimize the devices until they were ready to be manufactured and sold. Lastly, I documented the devices and trained teams in building, testing, and using the completed scientific tools. While developing these novel scientific tools, I worked with patent attorneys while they drafted patents to protect the intellectual property rights of the methods we devised and the devices we developed. It was then that I realized I could leverage, in new ways, my strong scientific and technical background and my ability, and desire, to learn difficult topics. As a law student, I focused on intellectual property law in general, but patent law specifically. I also became a patent agent, worked for a magistrate judge, and assisted in drafting patent claims and office actions for a small firm.
