Pick what suits you:As a botanist, I have done lab research in the tissue culture of palms and written research into the species of northern and southern beech (Fagus & Nothofagus). I have been a Howard Hughes intern and received a Young Botanist Award from the Botanical Society of America. My interests include plant hardiness and cold acclimation, variation within species such as ecotypes, temperate bamboos, and cross-breeding ornamentals. As more of our world becomes cultivated and civilized, I am also concerned about the lack of diversity in the landscape (consequences).I'm most interested in the areas where botany overlaps with horticulture, particularly breeding new varieties.Like any scientist, I value all forms of sustainable development and public education related to science. I'm sorry that so many well-meaning nincompoops have swallowed so much Russian propaganda related to so-called and much-reviled GMOs in particular and modern agricultural practice in general. It's truly appalling!My experience in leadership runs the course of my life. As the oldest of four children in a single-parent family, I was (of course) always expected to set an example, and often left in change. The summer before high school, I was a founding member of a group that began as a leadership workshop. By the time I had graduated from high school four years later, the organization had raised $100,000 in the community to fund youth-oriented programs and been enhanced with a $50,000 matching grant from the Kellogg Foundation. In college, I participated in a select community drawn from less than 1% of the undergraduate population dedicated to the ideals of leadership, scholarship, and service. Beyond college, my deepening knowledge of tools such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming and the Myers-Briggs Typological Inventory have given me a better understanding of others and myself. Experiential knowledge from interactions with students, clients, co-workers, and the general public have only built upon this core. How effectively people work together is critical for all kinds of internal and external interactions and determines whether organizations maximize the potential of their talent.Described as “the real thing” by a recipient of the National Flute Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, Todd Gorman has won more than $10,000 in competitions and performed in Carnegie Hall and in Europe.
