I moved into the role of primary SOA engineer/architect for the GBRD group here at GM. I am mainly responsible for providing SOA infrastructure for the use of app teams within global sales. This includes installation, configuration, troubleshooting of the SOA platform as well as training, security (maintaining/updating SSL certificates), vendor recommended updates and jdk updates. I work closely with SOA architects and developers on my team and with java developers on other teams within GM to ensure the the most efficient environments are built and configured. I am also evangelizing, attempting to get SOA (in the form of Oracle SOA products) more widely accepted and used throughout the company. I am also a middleman for my team and the company Unix group, have been administering/troubleshooting the VMs used by my team and contacting the main Unix support group as necessary for help. I have since moved into administering and supporting a production ELK stack used to track sales leads. Most recently my team has taken over support and administration of an internal search engine powered by Norconex with an Elasticsearch back end to to hold company website data. I have worked to update, test and maintain the bash scripts currently used to run webcrawler scripts for that search engine. Also, I am working to automate as much as possible the administering of the SOA platform, ELK stack and search engine using bash scripts and Python as necessary. I have been looking at other technologies as well which would help in this area. And in the last 3 years I have taken operational ownership of an enterprise-wide Oracle Key Vault cluster and have become the go-to in supporting this product

I help app teams manage their environments from dev through production release, helping in submitting technical requests (firewall holes, access requests, elevated access, etc) as well as help maintain a list of current environments in the GBRD group. I also escalate technical issues/requests as necessary by liaising between the dev team and other internal IT teams. The goal of my team is to help make the release process as fluid and pain-free as possible for dev teams, allowing them to concentrate more on the development of their apps. I also help with other technical questions and consults related to middleware products including Oracle SOA products, apache/tomcat, IIS and Jboss.

I helped to provide various middleware platforms to internals customers. These platforms included apache/tomcat (HPUX and Linux), Oracle Weblogic (HPUX and Linux), Jboss (Linux) and IIS (Windows 2003, 2008 Server). As part of the design team, I helped ensure app teams follow the correct HP design for their apps and make suggestions as necessary to help them better their apps into our established framework using ITIL V3 guidelines. I also served as L3 support for the above mentioned platforms. Finally, I was the change management coordinator for the middleware team, serving as the liason between the change management team and app teams, helping ensure that all change management policies are followed as they pertain to middleware here at HP.
