I'm Tim O'Hearn. I am a software engineer and writer. In quantitative trading, I have worked as a C++ platform engineer, a DevOps engineer, and a trading systems engineer embedded in a high-frequency options market making desk. Currently, I'm a senior software engineer at Chicago Trading Company in New York City.In consulting engagements, I have been retained for my ability to link "the business side" with superior technical vision, especially for niche SaaS and alternative data products. I've helped founders ideate, build, and sell exciting products as a trusted confidant and fractional CTO.As an engineer, I am a Python generalist. I take pride in designing and deploying robust software quickly based on simple design patterns and cloud native computing. I’ve been entrusted to develop product verticals at startups as well as systems that trading firms used to mitigate "catastrophic risk" and to capture and exploit new sources of alpha.As a writer, a cherished hobby of mine has come to contribute to how I make a living. Beginning in 2024, I've been a contributing sportswriter for LetsRun.com, FloTrack, and FanSided, traveling to Europe for three separate assignments. In previous years, I led a large offshore technical writing group at a Chinese hardware manufacturer and I led a small marketing team at a social media services startup. I am a competent technical writer, an effective persuasive writer, and a creative practitioner of New Journalism, but managing content teams and holding writers accountable are duties I can perform at the highest level.There exists a lot of inefficiency and incompetence in this world. I hope to have a hand in eliminating both, at whatever scale. I am motivated by a desire to pursue knowledge for its own sake, a desire to be a force multiplier, and a desire to compete and win.Due to the practical and contractual restrictions of my full-time employment, I am currently only open to English writing and editing opportunities, no software roles please.
