ASML has a lot of moving systems in their machines, to control these systems a generic motion control platform has been created called CARM. CARM is vastly optimized to run control networks as fast as possible. One of these optimizations is running certain blocks of code in parallel divided over multiple CPU cores and boards. The execution time of these blocks is needed to decide how the computations are divided. During this internship a new improved way to measure these execution times was made. This resulted in faster feedback on the performance of blocks during development and a starting point for improving the distribution of these blocks over the multiple CPU cores and boards.

Team Rembrandts is a robotics team located in Eindhoven. This team consist out of members from the Fontys university but also has members that are from multiple high schools. During a period of only 6 weeks Team Rembrandts builds a robot from scratch to compete in the First Robotics Competition (FRC) in the United States. This robot is mainly build by new members that are supported by so called mentors, this process ensures that everyone contribute to the final result.As a software mentor you help new people getting up to speed and help them to make the code that is necessary to control the new robot. Additionally a software mentor also teaches programming courses to the high school students to get them familiar with basic software concepts.

OCÉ uses a lot of stepper motors in their production printers. Stepper motors have the benefit that they do not need an encoder to acquire the position of the rotor because the magnetic field dictates its position. Unfortunately, this is only true when the applied torque is within certain limits. During this internship a universal tool has been made that uses measured properties from a stepper motor to verify if that motor can be used with a certain load. It does not only take static properties into account but also the spring like behavior the magnetic field has on the rotor.

As a student assistant you give lessons to first year students of the mechatronic study. During these lessons you help students with their homework and the questions they have.
