Hyatt Ground Engineering is a specialist ground support contractor working in the civil sector. HGE has the resources to deliver traditional contracting services as well as design and construct projects. Traditionally my area of responsibility has been to successfully manage the delivery of projects once they have been secured. This involves managing multiple sites (nationwide) at various stages of delivery. Of late, significant experience has been gained in estimating and negotiation of projects with many design and construct projects being managed from concept to completion.

The project is a motorway widening from the Hills District in the north west of Sydney to the rising business centre of North Ryde. As part of the structures team I was involved in major structural modifications to bridge structures involving the post-tensioning to lengthen a bridge as well as installation of new girders to widen a bridge. I was also responsible for the management of a 200m long cantilevered retaining wall and the delivery of civil works to tunnel deluge system (retaining wall construction, foundation construction and noise wall installation. Other responsibilities involved completion and hand over of many other bridge structures. My role consisted of programming and planning, cost control/management as well as site and quality management.

As an undergraduate within Leighton Contractors, I was placed on the 24 month graduate program. This involved gaining experiences from across the business and understanding how both the industry and Leighton Contractors as a company operates. To name a few, these experiences involved programming, tendering, cost control, site/construction management, engineering/design management and quality assurance/control.Generally the program lasts for 2 years, however I was able to complete within 15 months.

As an undergraduate during the early phases of the M2 Upgrade Project I worked closely with both the construction and engineering team to deliver a complete cost estimate and construction methodology for the deliver of the project prior to client acceptance. Leighton Contractors had already been selected as prefered proponent for the project by Transurban.

Jack Hodgson Consultants Pty Limited specialises in geotechnical, structural, civil and hydrological engineering in both domestic and light industrial fields across all areas of Sydney and regional NSW. My role involved geotechnical assessment of local council DA applications and providing geotechnical advice and designs for landslides, retaining walls, houses, factories and pools. This included site assessment and field testing to establish the impact proposed works would have on the properties. During my time, there was a strong drive to implement the risk management methods outlined in the Australian Geomechanics Society's "LandslideRisk Management Concepts and Guidelines". This exposed me to the use of both quantitative, semi-quantitative and qualitative methods for risk analysis surrounding landslide activity and slope instability.
