He was named a Concentra division president in 1999 and led the company's group health industry business development efforts. In 2000, Tom orchestrated the purchase of Health Network Systems, a leading provider of PPO and HMO network management services. In January 2005, Tom assumed additional responsibilities as President of Concentra's Focus Healthcare Management, a national workers' compensation PPO, as well as the company's Provider Bill Review business unit, both of which were subsequently sold to Coventry Health Care, Inc., (now CVS/Aetna) in 2007 for $387M. In 2005, Tom and his team completed the acquisition of Beech Street Corporation, one of the nation's largest Preferred Provider Organizations. In 2007, the company was renamed Viant, Inc., during its spin-off from Concentra, Inc., and subsequently completed the acquisition of the ppoNEXT and Texas True Choice PPO networks. Under his leadership Viant invested approximately $270 million to acquire PPO networks and network management technology designed to promote efficiencies for all parties in the health care transaction.In June 2009, Viant agreed to merge with Multiplan, Inc., for $930 million, a transaction that would form the largest independent managed care organization (MCO) in the US and from August 2009, through March 2010, Tom managed the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust review leading to the merger between the two organizations. In September, 2010, Multiplan was aquired by two private equity firms for approximately $3.5 billion. Prior to joining Viant, Tom was President of Medical Review Systems, Inc., a health care cost management technology company that was acquired by Equifax, Inc.

Tom joined Medical Review Systems, a health care cost containment startup in 1991 as president and organized the company's sales, marketing and operations infrastructure, including the market development of their proprietary Line Item Analysis repricing technology, which revolutionized inpatient medical bill cost analyses. The company was subsequently acquired by Equifax, Inc.
