I have just finished my third year of BSc Environmental Science at Plymouth University with a 2:1. I am very passionate about the environment and envisage a career involving research and conservation in tropical or temperate regions. I have a good understanding of many ecosystems and love field work, and want to make a difference by researching environments further so that we can combat negative anthropogenic effects by putting effective management/conservation strategies in place to protect biodiversity.I am excited to go to into graduate work or further study!

Honduras
8 weeks - initial collection of data with Operation Wallacea for collective purpose and continuation of my own research and development, as detailed in previous experience. To carry out surveys to assess herpetofauna diversity and abundance at one of the research camps run by Operation Wallacea in the Merendon Mountains, Honduras, using standardised methodologies and ensuring that the survey is ran in such a way that students can assist in a safe manner, i.e preventing the handling of snakes by volunteers or non-herpetological staff and supervising. A requirement to give some presentations as required as part of the evening talks programme about the herpetofauna project or related studies and explain the purpose and results of surveys to participants, providing necessary training for dissertation students on the use of Maxent for species distribution modelling.Ensuring all raw data is sorted and analysed before leaving the site, for the eventual writing of a detailed report, contributing towards the writing of papers based on this data for publication in peer reviewed journals.
Plymouth, United Kingdom
Publicize the initial Operation Wallacea presentation, and promote the talk to as wide a group of students possible via the distribution of posters, template emails, brochures etc, and inform all relevant students of future talks and opportunities through email.Organise and promote fundraising activities with students that are interested, encouraging them to raise money and join an expedition as a research assistant, or dissertation student, whilst keeping the Operation Wallacea office informed on the progress of fundraising by the group.

Utila Island (2 weeks)• Participated in scuba transects and research, identifying/spot-counting coral and fish species along a pre-measured transect. Recording and watching recorded footage of transects to identify species filmed to collect abundance and distribution data for the local reefs.• Qualified as PADI Advanced Diver Qualification• PADI Caribbean Coral Reef Ecology (Specialty Diver Qualification)
