Leadership of Revolymer’s projects focused on the development and application of polymer chemicals and polymer based formulations in the personal care, coatings and related areas. Role encompassed working with the business team and customers to identify new opportunities, and then developing and validating the subsequent polymer based products effectiveness. Managed a wide portfolio of concurrent projects generally involving the direct management of a 7-strong team consisting of senior scientists, scientists and technicians. The projects in the personal care and coatings area covered a diverse range of application areas and technical targets. Many of the projects involved working closely with the customer’s application experts and formulators to successfully achieve the project goals. In the personal care area achievements included the development and testing of a naturally derived hair styling resin, a system for enhanced oral care active performance and the formulation of a range of lip cosmetic products intended for commercial sale. Coatings projects included paint & ink applications like the development of a new barrier coating for food packaging, as well as enhancing the visual performance of hard surface cleaners.My role also involved managing the company’s patent and trademark portfolios and providing advice on intellectual property matters. Writing patent and trademark specifications and supporting their prosecution worldwide. Acted as internal expert on filing strategy, protecting the ability of the company to sell products (freedom to operate) and co-ordinating IP related searches. Represented the company through the discovery process on a patent infringement case.

Post-doctoral project with an emphasis on technology transfer involving manufacturing polymers at Liverpool using radical polymerisation, step-growth polymerisation, supercritical CO2 processing and coupling chemistry and testing them in personal and home care applications at Uniqema’s site. Resulted in a better understanding of the polymerisation chemistry and how to perform the process using milder and more efficient reaction conditions.
