Stationed at Norfolk Naval Station, Newport News Shipyard, and Point Loma Naval Submarine Base.

6 months of Nuclear Power Training Unit (prototype) at the Naval Reactors Facility located on the Idaho National Laboratory about 50 miles west of Idaho Falls, ID. Involved hands-on training at A1W, a reactor prototype in operation from 1958 to 1994. Applied the concepts learned at Naval Nuclear Power School – studied systems and components of a nuclear propulsion plant and worked with all the associated systems of a full-scale operating plant. Culminated with qualification as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW).Followed by 3 months of Submarine Officer Basic Course (SOBC) in New London, CT. Learned all about submarine operations, including safety, damage control, seamanship and the responsibilities of leading as a division officer.
