Longannet Power Station

• Monitor generating unit’s operating effectiveness and efficiency to improve sent out load capability.• Instruct and direct Plant Controller, as required, during unit running.• Respond to emergency situations urgently and effectively, taking responsible and safe measures to restore unit stability.• Respond to time-related deadlines for sent out load change, start up and shut down requirements via the Electronic Dispatch Logging (EDL) system and update EDL system with plant change information.• Assist with unit preparations to ensure intended running requirements are met in conjunction with shift management team, internal Energy Management Department and external National Grid Control (NGC).• Communicate with internal departments and contracting staff to improve plant availability.• Understand and apply site procedures, safety documentation and codes of practice associated with unit operation, ensuring compliance.• Ensure all necessary Risk Assessments are completed and recorded, ensuring that all tasks and operational routines are carried out safely.• Responsible for carrying out all the plant checks and routine testing of plant and apparatus necessary for achieving optimal performance of the units and ancillary equipment including the checking and monitoring of turbine and boiler systems.• Liaise with Unit Operator to provide flexible and efficient response to running requirements, safety concerns or to prevent environmental breaches.• Understand and apply the relevant sections of the ScottishPower Codes of Practice and operational guidance documentation, in particular the 4th Edition Safety Rules and PF Code of Practice.• Carry out condition monitoring of plant, highlighting unusual trends and ensuring that defect Work Orders are raised to allow repairs. • Discharge duties as Production Fire Team member.• Undertake Unit Controller duties as required.

Cockenzie Power Station

Responsible for managing multi-discipline shift teams in order to optimise resource and balance of skills to meet short and medium term production requirements. Main duties were:-• Optimised the team balance of skills to meet Plant status and running regime. • Provided advice on non-routine activities, i.e. unit start-up/shutdown and emergency actions, managing both commercial and technical risk. • Coached and technically assessed team members. • Managed man-hours ensuring accurate recording and reporting to ensure that annualised hours and holiday requirements were effectively managed.• Understand and apply relevant Station and Business procedures.• Ensured compliance of contractors under the ScottishPower 4th Edition Safety Rules.• Carried out the role of Production Technical Training Coordinator liaising with Human Resources and site Management. • Maximise budget expenditure, comply with best practice, legislative requirements and organisational objectives to manage Production training plans to completion.• Liaised with the ScottishPower Energy Management Centre Trading Planners to understand energy short and medium term requirements. • Carried out regular audits of main and auxiliary plant areas for safety, housekeeping and plant defect issues. • Ensured that plant defects have been raised and tracked progress of key defects e.g. affecting safety, environmental, output or efficiency.

Cockenzie Power Station

Responsible for the safe, efficient and environmentally aware operation of the boiler and turbine generating sets within a 1200MW thermal Station. Main duties were:-• Optimised boiler/turbine unit load output whilst operating safety within prescribed emission limits. • Monitored unit effectiveness and efficiency to improve sent out load capability and reduce unavailability due to failures related to poor operation. • Applied station procedures and documentation associated with production to ensure compliance• Provided problem resolution with regards to managing external public relations issues. • Focussed on condition monitoring of plant, highlighting unusual trends and ensuring that defects cards were raised to allow repairs. • Maintained a focus on plant capability, operating efficiency and customer requirements, ie ScottishPower Energy Management Department, National Grid Control (NGC).• Upgraded to Resource Coordinator position.• Active Station fire team and first aider.

Cockenzie Power Station

• Responsible for management of designated plant areas. • Trained new personnel in plant basement and boiler techniques in line with ScottishPower policies and procedures.• Maintained oil burner system in line with policies and procedures.
