Leading a research agenda spanning fundamental and applied projects across reinforcement learning, bioinformatics, and quantum machine learning.

April 2019 - December 2020: Postdoctoral position within the group of Prof A. I. Lvovsky with a research agenda spans machine learning, experimental and theoretical quantum optics, and their intersection. This has lead to multiple publications at leading machine learning conferences and scientific journals.• Conceived and implemented a state-of-the-art algorithm for applying reinforcement learning to NP-hard combinatorial optimisation problems. This work was performed in collaboration with researchers from Facebook AI Research and indust.ai.• Developed a methodology to learn and disentangle the underlying structure of dynamical environments from sequences of images.• Co-developed a theoretical proposal to implement the backpropagation algorithm for training neural networks in an all-optical setting.• Leading research projects into the application of generative neural networks to quantum chemistry and complex non-linear differential equations.April 2018 - April 2019: Postdoctoral position within the Atom-Photon Connection group of Dr Axel Kuhn.• Developed novel theoretical frameworks for birefringent cavity-QED, supported by numerical simulations and experimental data.

• Thesis titled “Polarised Single-Photons from a Cavity-Enhanced Atom-Light Interface in Photonic Quantum Networks” supervised by Dr Axel Kuhn:- Experimental implementation of a deterministic single-photon source using a single atom coupled to a high finesse optical cavity.- Building the experiment from scratch requires a wide range of technical skills including the setup and operation of laser systems, electronics design and software development to interface with the instruments.• Preliminarily results pending publication:- Deterministic photon routing via the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, realised by dynamic control of the phase of the photon.• Awarded the Pirie-Reid Scholarship: “Awards full tuition and college fee waivers to Scottish students, or students who have received much of their education in Scotland, who are intending to study a higher degree at the University of Oxford. Eligible candidates must demonstrate outstanding academic excellence.”• Presented at the Young Atom Opticians conference 2016 and the PicoQuant International Symposium on "Single Photon based Quantum Technologies" in 2018.

• Coded an array of Java developments for the companies ALFA Systems software in areas ranging from database access to the UI layer.• Worked as a member of the ALFA Product Team who control the overall direction of product. Individual responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining the integration test suite, which checks the software’s functionality, as well as tackling a variety of in-house developmental and bug-fixing issues.

• Designed and coded a Linux-like command line interface using Python: - The interface allowed customers to run diagnostics and implement fixes to their system without compromising security. - Wrote documentation for the final product. - Presented the product to associates from the Edinburgh and London offices.• Wrote python scripts to assist with the comparison and patching of file structures.

• Project work researching human physiology and comfort responses in a variety of environmental and activity scenarios.• Used VBA programming language to write macros to:- Automate the process that modeled physiological response across a complex range of activity and environment scenarios. - Analyze large volumes of data generated from the model and create easy to understand summary outputs.• Carried out materials testing to generate the input data for the model.
