About Tom Dow

I am currently a physician researcher. I have had a 40 year career as a medical/surgical ophthalmologist, retiring from that in 2018. I have a background in microbiology with a special interest in mycobacteria. For the past 20 years I have worked to tie a certain bacterium, Mycobacterium avium ss. paratuberculosis (MAP) to a number of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. This has been a fruitful endeavor with MAP having a causal link to Crohn's disease, sarcoidosis, Blau syndrome, autoimmune diabetes, autoimmune thyroiditis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Parkinson's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. More recently, I have studied Alzheimer's disease and have conducted a clinical trial with BCG vaccine (the vaccine to prevent tuberculosis).
