My role at the RNLI is within the IT Infrastructure Team and involves leading the day to day operations of the vast RNLI database estate of over 500 databases in our Hybrid Data Centre architecture including IaaS & PaaS database solutions in AWS and Azure. This means I am the 3rd line escalation point for database incidents and service requests.I lead on the configuration and maintenance of the database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance and availability, as well as planning, designing, documenting and implementing Database access and security.I work with the Technical Architect and Infrastructure Manager, to act as a technical design authority for the organisations Database platforms.I also assist software developers and suppliers with the installation and configuration of MS SQL Databases, including the creation of stored procedures etc and performance tuning code and indexes where necessary.When required I also assist my team with more generic IT Infrastructure responsibilities like: Extending disks on the SAN, patching servers, investigating issues within Windows Server just to name a few.Primary technologies: SQL Server 2014-2019, Azure SQL, Azure Virtual Machines, Windows Server, AWS RDS, AWS EC2, PowerShell.

My role resides in the IT Infrastructure Team and includes dealing with the day-to-day operations, maintenance and support of Database services hosted on premise, in Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.Day to day activities may include: Leading SQL work on large projects, Backup and Recovery, Migrating databases, Database Development, Capacity Planning, Writing queries, Performance tuning, Automating with PowerShell, Investigating service incidents and resolving within the agreed Service Level Agreement, Supporting internal RNLI teams, Liaising with 3rd parties, Installing new database services and much more.

I worked in a small team of DBA's supporting and developing Microsoft SQL Databases, Business Intelligence reports, Application Servers and Web Servers.

I was based on the Service Desk providing support for the applications and systems within Dorset County Council.

My Apprenticeship role involved me primarily supporting the IT infrastructure and maintaining the in-house applications and databases for the organisation across 4 offices in Dorset. I also developed a new website for the organisation. Another project which I took on was upgrading the IT Infrastructure to bring it up to modern standards by replacing Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP with Windows 10 and other modern solutions. I also spent time testing products like MariaDB, MySQL, Synology NAS, Office 365, G Suite, McAfee and Webroot.
