As a photojournalist, Tom Fox has spent over 30 years experiencing the lives of others and sharing their stories with his camera. Every day is different, bringing to it a new dimension and sense of creativity.Tom was a 2020 Pulitzer Prize finalist in Spot News Photography for coverage of an active shooter outside Dallas’ Earle Cabell Federal Building, which houses federal courts. He photographed the ordeal at great personal risk as he waiting on a defendant to arrive for her trial. His photography from that day was selected and shown by Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan, France. Tom was also part of a small team of photographers at The Dallas Morning News who won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for coverage of Hurricane Katrina. In 2018 and 2020, National Headliner Awards honored him with best of show and first place for photography portfolio. Over the years, he’s been honored by Pictures of the Year, Best of Photojournalism, Society of Professional Journalists, Texas APME and Headliner’s Foundation.Tom has covered such notable stories like ‘Pain and Profit’, a 16-month Dallas Morning News investigation into mismanaged health care in Texas with reporters J. David McSwane and Andrew Chavez. Events such as the Beijing Olympic Games, Presidential inaugurations, Space Shuttle Discovery’s Return to Flight following the Columbia tragedy in East Texas, the controversial right-to-life fight of Terri Schiavo in Florida, AIDS and Tuberculosis Crisis in South Africa and Botswana and numerous sporting events including three Super Bowls, two World Series, several Final Fours, the NBA Finals and NBA All-Star game.His photos of the new Cowboys Stadium (now AT&T Stadium) in Arlington are a dynamic look at the country’s most grandiose coliseum. Tom was the sole on-site photographer during its evolution from a hole in the ground to opening day. It was one of the most demanding projects of his career. The work was published by not only the Morning News, but in a large picture book, Cowboys Stadium: Architecture, Art, Entertainment in the 20th Century, published by Rizzoli New YorkA native Minnesotan, Tom settled in Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas – Arlington. He also worked as a staff photographer for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and photo editor/chief photographer for The Arlington Morning News before returning to The Dallas Morning News.Specialties: Making the most of every situation.
