I am a retired CEO with over 40+ years experience in the for-profit, not-for-profit, and military worlds. I have served on, and led, multiple governance boards. I now teach, write and consult about leadership and management, particularly in health care. I serve as the Director of the UC San Diego Health Leadership Academy, a one-year, 10 session, 100+ classroom hour seminar for up&coming health care leaders.I have published two books that describe novel leadership and management paradigms - "7 Roles Great Leaders Don't Delegate" and "11 Questions Great Managers Ask & Answer," and am writing my third book, which describes how to transition from management to leadership.I retired in 2015 after 14 years as CEO of the San Diego County Medical Society, a membership non-profit. I spent three years as a senior consultant with BoozAllenHamilton, and 22 years as a Naval Officer, serving in nuclear submarines.

In the final tour of a 22 year Navy career, he was the leader of the Pacific Fleet’s Quality Improvement Team.
