About Tom Johnstone Msc Apiol

ActivistOutdooryDOerCritical thinkerNetworkerAs an environmental scientist with a background working as an outdoor professional I am able to work effectively in any conditions and manage people and projects in dangerous and hostile environments. This gives me an exceptional skillset in managing projects, people and logistics. I'm a critical thinker with a logistics eye for details, so can bring a different perspective to many situations. My current work builds on my previous role at the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley to develop a nation wide approach to nature recovery in designated landscapes bringing an even wider range of stakeholders and delivery partners. This work is underpinned by people, as any attempt to recover nature relies heavily on the action of individuals, organisations and networks and as such I often focus on networking and relationship building. At Anglesey Outdoors I recruited new staff, developed their training framework, inducted them and held a line management role. While onboard the MV Sea Watch I was a team player fulfilling my role as deckhand and watch keeper, filling in for other crew when they were sea sick and ensuring the ship continued on it's SAR task despite the weather, time of day or challenges faced. The foundations of my career and professional approach can be found in numerous previous roles where I've been responsible for managing people, projects, risks, opportunities and delivering growth and change.
