Immediately following Hurricane Katrina, I was among the first 3 volunteers brainstorming to conceive of Project Reassure. Soon that idea grew into an organized volunteer group of mental health specialists, psychologists, crisis responders, writers and editors, educators, students, photographers, designers, and other professionals. The team quickly created resources to assist adults caring for youth victims displaced and distressed by the hurricane. The outcome was Project Reassure (https://www.projectreassure.pitt.edu/), a collaborative effort of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education and The Watson Institute. Project Reassure is an ongoing project which continues to provide resources available worldwide for adults to use while caring for young victims displaced and/or distressed by traumatic events, such as natural disasters or school violence.
