Senior Chief of Staff for Nine News based at GTV9 in Melbourne. Responsible for a staff of up to 30 on a daily basis, I am an experienced media professional accustomed to working in the high-pressure environment of Australia’s highest-rating TV newsroom. My roles include setting the news agenda for Nine News Melbourne’s daily bulletins – identifying, assigning, crafting and chasing stories. I work across daily national and state-wide bulletins; running editorial meetings, managing a team of reporters, camera and link crews and liaising with production staff. I also have a leadership role in the administration of the newsroom, with responsibility for rostering reporters, producers and news desk staff – managing leave balances and reconciliation, assisting with budgetary decisions and staff recruitment (interviewing and hiring). I have taken a lead role in planning a number of live coverage events – managing and coordinating rolling coverage on location of Royal Visits, high-profile court cases and elections. My responsibilities in staff management and welfare includes being an accredited Mental Health First Aid Officer, which has given me a unique perspective and skill set to help foster a positive working environment and assist staff in times of distress or illness. I act as a first port of call for external organisations, coordinating logistics with various organisations including Victoria Police, Department of Premier & Cabinet and Victoria’s court system. I am organised and diligent; I communicate clearly and well across a wide range of departments and am a go-to point of contact for many in the newsroom. I skilfully manage newsroom logistics, juggling crews and links/resources to ensure dynamic coverage of breaking news in Melbourne. I am also responsible for newsroom forward planning, generating promo and feature stories, establishing strong contacts to secure Nine News a range of exclusive stories. I pride myself on knowing how to get the best out of my staff whilst balancing the complex demands of managing a professional newsroom.
