I love being able to dig into a problem and find the solution. Whether it's a software error, hardware failure or connecting the right teams together to resolve an issue, the feeling of being a part of the resolution is what I enjoy.Over the 15+ years I've been in the monitoring field, I've seen technology come and go. One thing that has never changed is the chaos that can ensue with the break of just one link in the chain. Being there to help 'weld the link' back together is very rewarding.As part of my senior position I enjoy passing on things I've learned to the rest of the team. For example, I learned the mainframe change management process to be able to assist another team when needed. Ironically this process eventually moved to my team where my experience, documentation and subsequent training of my team members greatly eased the transition.As the migration from mainframe processing to a distributed server model began, I was able to learn a whole new way of monitoring and interacting with batch processing. It was an exciting time while the team learned the new systems and shared the 'eureka' moments when we found a more efficient way of doing a task and shared it with the rest of the team.INTERESTING FACTSI volunteer at the annual Pacific Northwest Pinball and Arcade show as a 'medic' to help repair games that break during the show. From freeing stuck pinballs to repairing wiring harnesses and working on circuit boards, it's not only fun but also a chance to learn new skills. I own a 3D printer.
