Tom joined Stantec in 2019, continuing an implementation oriented community development career that began in 1998 when he worked for fifteen years as Minneapolis’s lead planning staff in economically-challenged North Minneapolis. There he led large-scale, transformative initiatives for its neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and riverfront, and valued his relationships with community leadership and residents.Since 2012 Tom has specialized in economic and real estate oriented planning and analysis. In that capacity Tom joined a terrific planning team at Stantec, and supports projects at regional, municipal and small area scales across the United States. He routinely works on market and development analysis, housing studies, economic development strategies, and economic and fiscal impact analyses.Tom has developed analytical methodologies and processes that illuminate the real world market and development context, and pave the way for implementation—including being a codeveloper of the national award winning Corridor Development Initiative. He values talking about real world complexities in ways that people understand, and focusing on the information and analysis that is truly relevant to public goals and objectives.
