In this position, I provide guidance and direction to Board inspection staff, all of whom were licensed pharmacists, regarding investigations involving the diversion of controlled pharmaceutical drugs, with the primary drugs of choice being opioids and benzodiazepines. I reviewed and made recommendations for administrative action of licensees; assessing a citation and/or fine or disciplinary action, which involved referral to the California Attorney General’s Office. Additionally, the TDS investigated violations of the Controlled Substance Act and Federal Code of Regulations by Health Care Professionals, specifically abuses by medical and pharmacy professionals of their DEA Registrations.
