After a career in radio, I think I found my calling in education and school improvement. I love teaching and learning, and believe my strength is working with staff (individually or collectively) sharing my passion for pedagogy. I'm fortunate enough to love the challenge of maths, and enjoy learning more about how we best teach maths, especially my work on visualising maths (bar modelling and algebra tiles) and continually developing my knowledge on a "mastery" approach, all of which I have been sharing with schools in various guises. I hope to share this passion for T&L with the new teachers within Arthur Terry National Teaching School's SCITT and in other schools either through the Maths Hub or on a freelance basis. During the academic year 2018-19, I completed a Master's degree at the University of Birmingham, and got a distinction in School Improvement and Educational Leadership. I believe in the school-to-school support model, but have seen it carried out in poor ways. Much of my degree has focused on multi-academy trusts, teacher development and introducing maths pedagogy, and I enjoyed exploring maths development in MATs for my dissertation, a paper I intend to get published and strongly believe will be important reading to all MATs and school leaders who are looking to improve their maths provision. My time in different schools in various roles including SLT gave me great preparation for the research which was a very enjoyable process for me. My work with Maximize was also a delight - I have always felt I have been successful inspiring pupils in different scenarios, whether it be mathematical, pastoral or exam focused, so I find this presenting very natural (although perhaps my radio career helped me prepare for this also!)
