Tom McCarthy has over 35 years of experience in healthcare, insurance, and financial services, including more than 30 years with Cigna Corporation (NYSE: CI). He served as Cigna’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from July 2013 until he retired in June 2017.As CFO, Tom led Cigna’s financial functions, investment management, corporate development, and strategic planning. He guided Cigna through the global financial crisis and the changes brought by the Affordable Care Act, leading strategic M&A transactions and repositioning the company’s strategy for growth. By his retirement, Cigna had annual revenues of $42 billion, earnings of $2.7 billion, and a market capitalization of $43 billion.Before becoming CFO, Tom was Vice President of Finance, overseeing treasury, tax, strategy, corporate development, and run-off businesses. He also held executive roles at USAA and Kemper Insurance.Tom has extensive board experience. Since January 2018, he has been on the Board of Directors of Selective Insurance Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIGI), where he chairs the Finance & Investments Committee and serves on the Risk Committee. He joined the Board of Directors of Privia Health (NASDAQ: PRVA) in May 2021 and chairs the Audit Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Avenue of the Arts, Inc. in Philadelphia, PA and the Board of Trustees of the American University of Rome.Tom received his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business.
