I have over 20 years’ experience in the geological and geotechnical industry with most of those dedicated to aggregates, from the preparation of Pan-European Standard for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Reserves (PERC) compliant resource and reserve assessments to quality control for general purpose aggregates, cement manufacturing, dimension stone, recycled aggregates, brick manufacturing, agricultural and architectural products, and all aspects of the quarrying industry. I have significant experience in many forms of premature degradation in both aggregates and concrete and have been involved in numerous dispute resolutions and litigation cases throughout my career. I have presented at conferences arranged by the Irish Concrete Federation (ICF), the Irish Mining and Quarrying Society (IMQS) and the Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI) relating to degradation and the appropriate use of standards and am current member of the National Standards Authority of Ireland geology panel. I am listed on the Institute of Geologists Specialist Register related to pyrite assessments and am the lead researcher on a Geological Survey of Ireland funded project titled "Measuring Pyrite Reactivity in Aggregates and the Relationship with Thermal Maturation". I am involved in Carbon Capture and Utilization assessments for aggregates and concrete and the assessment of alternative sources for cement manufacturing. I have investigated the soil improvement potential for various rock types and completed large scale field trials and assessments.I have significant experience in design and management of large scale ground investigations for public and private infrastructure projects. I have gained experience in geotechnical design over a wide range of geological settings throughout Ireland and New Zealand. I have been the lead on-site geologist both onshore and offshore for many different exploration projects including gold, lead-zinc, underground coal gasification and compressed air energy storage potential in Triassic Salt. I have undertaken many specific sand and gravel and rock resource assessments and geotechnical stability assessments throughout Ireland, the UK, and New Zealand. These works have included desktop searches and site investigations including borehole drilling, geophysical surveys at targeted locations, discontinuity mapping and slope stability analysis. I have prepared many geological, soils, subsoils and geomorphology sections for Environmental Impact Statements for quarries and other large infrastructure projects.

My background in the site investigation industry provides a keen insight into design, procurement and over-sight of ground investigations works. Within SLR, I have prepared geological / geotechnical and environmental desk top studies and technical literature reviews for road and rail infrastructure projects and environmental assessments. Desk studies involved gathering and collating published data on topography, geomorphology, quaternary geology, solid bedrock, historical land use, environmental, hydrology and hydrogeology. They also involved interpretation of aerial photographs and ground truthing of the data by means of site walkover surveys.I have undertaken many specific sand and gravel and rock resource assessments and geotechnical stability assessments throughout Ireland and New Zealand.
