The through-line of my career has been a desire to play my part in creating a more just world, through leadership roles in dynamic organizations advancing global health and holistic human development for all. Throughout these years, I have been blessed with colleagues who have inspired me not only with their professional achievements, but with their compassion, commitment and kindness. Since early 2018, I've been part of the small team launching a unique startup, the Global Solidarity Fund, which catalyzes collaboration across the faith, business & development sectors for vulnerable people in developing countries. From 2012 to 2018 I worked in the Global Policy & Advocacy division of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Washington DC and London, creating alliances to support governments in investing wisely, generously and collaboratively in international development and health - the need for which has been made all too clear by the ongoing impact of the subsequent global pandemic.From 2004-2012, I served in the US State Department in Washington on PEPFAR, the groundbreaking President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. My jobs included serving as the deputy head of the program and as its chief of staff, helping to steer it through complex political and management challenges. As a civil servant, I served as its acting head for five months during the 2009 presidential transition - an important moment for ensuring that it remained a US foreign policy priority, as it has to this day. At both the Gates Foundation and PEPFAR, collaboration with faith leaders and communities was central to my work, as it is my conviction that this sector is indispensible for holistic, inclusive and sustainable human development. Before that, I worked at the US Senate Finance Committee on US domestic health programs. My degrees are from Duke (BA), the University of Texas (JD), and Harvard (MPH), and I'm a citizen of the US and (thanks to my late grandmother) Ireland. I'm a proud (but not too proud, I hope) native New Yorker, spent most of my career in Washington DC, and in late 2016 moved to the UK, where I live in south London with my wife Sharon.
