I originally entered the field of manufacturing prosthetic and orthtoic devices at Queen Mary's Hospital back in 2002 through an advanced modern apprenticeship programme which included me studying operations & maintenance engineering. I then worked jointly in prosthetics and orthotics gaining experience of all the manufacturing techniques required to produce a wide range of medical devices. I then specialised in orthotics soon after, gaining knowledge of Paromed 3D modelling software system and the manufacturing of KAFO's and have gained over 15 years experience in manufacturing Orthotic medical devices. I am now the most experienced orthotic technician working at the Douglas Bader Centre-Queen Mary's Hospital, where I am regularly consulted on material and component selection, aswell as product design and engineering solutions. I have also designed and developed components to help improve device functionality.My specialist area is in the production of KAFO's, both modular and conventional, mainly using Otto Bock systems. I have a broard knowledge of leather working techniques, which include blocking corsets, lining and finishing of all aspects of both conventional and modular KAFO's. I also have knowledge of manufacturing processes using composite materials and wet lamination techniques.
