In addition to my responsibilities as a senior technician, I made the effective stress section self sufficient, assuming management of the calibration of my test equipment I carry out the calibrations themselves, teach them and ensure they are up to date. I train and teach colleagues and am responsible for assessing and signing them off for competency in both test and calibration procedures. To add to the BS1377 test procedures I've written previously, I've written several new ones when we expanded our accreditation scope to include BS EN ISO 17892.

As a senior technician I took over the everyday running of the effective stress section. I became in charge of prioritising work and beating deadlines, liaising with senior engineers and clients. I began training and teaching colleagues in a wide range of laboratory testing including shear box, effective triaxial, total stress triaxial, triaxial permeability, consolidation by oedometer and ring shear to the BS1377 British standard. I also oversaw and completed the calibration of test equipment. I have completely overhauled and re-written our test procedures and calibration procedures, bringing them up to a high standard which helped us to gain UKAS accreditation for our range of tests run to BS1377. I had gained a very good understanding of my test equipment, how it works and how it goes together, this enabled me to be able to problem solve effectively and quickly with minimal time loss and test disruption.
