About Tom Armitage

Tom is a geospatial professional with 20 years experience of working with Geographic Information Systems. He is currently a technical writer for MapTiler, keeping the world up-to-date with the amazing things they do with spatial data services. Tom is also an Honorary Fellow in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh, and helps teach GIS skills to postgraduates across multiple disciplines.Supporting the use of spatial data in UK academia for over 17 years has given him an a wealth of experience in sourcing and using a multitude of different datasets, and knowledge of how spatial data is used in almost every discipline. In addition to this, Tom has performed a range of roles from surveying in the field; data mining historic text; field data capture app development; through to customer focussed, complex analysis and product delivery.
