Writing and delivering GIS and spatial data short courses at the University of Edinburgh. Taught GIS to postgraduates, researchers and academic staff for over 13 years.Skilled in teaching the concepts of spatial data and GIS to beginners as well as teaching new skills to those with years of expertise. Regularly gave presentations and workshops at FOSS4G and QGIS events.Wrote and presented a series of CPD courses in Open Source GIS for commercial customers.

I spent over 13 years engaging with users, designers and software developers, giving me an in depth knowledge of recognising customer needs and translating that information for those building the services. My role was also to communicate the work that had been done back to active and prospective users via a variety of channels including social media, blog posts, email campaigns, user guides, journal articles and conference talks.The job also involved monitoring service usage, measuring the impact services have and engaging with stakeholders. I was instrumental in proving the value of mapping services and geospatial data to academia. I worked closely with the marketing and design teams on promotional strategies and materials, to disseminate this information to customers. Aspects included:- Writing technical support documentation.- Direct telephone and email support for users.- Communications Management: Blogging, Newsletters, Webinars, Video, Journal Articles- Social media presence management.- Promotions and marketing support.- Monitoring service usage for impact measurement.- Usage analysis for market research.- Software testing for usability and debugging.This role also involved promoting and supporting the Fieldtrip GB mobile app as well as contributing to the design and marketing of new data collection mobile apps.

Preparation and production of large datasets for customers.Spatial analysis of land titles information, and production of high quality maps.Presenting sensitive internal reports at board level meetings.Spatial data management using ArcSDE.

Researching and carrying out mass data creation, storage and cleansing using PERL programming and Oracle Databases.Writing entries in the Gazetteer for Scotland (www.scottish-places.info)Scanning and digital cleaning of images for the web and publication.Taking 1st year tutorials, and mentoring MSc students' theses and practical work.Trained as a land use/type surveyor for the European Union LUCAS Survey.
