This course provides an introduction to procedures in computer-aided design and computer graphics used in producing plans and three-dimensional electronic models associated with building design and construction. Some of the software/topics covered in the class include: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit, two- and three-dimensional hand drawing, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The course begins by familiarizing students with AutoCAD through a variety of exercises designed to improve drafting and critical thinking skills, such as graphically constructing a golden section, then using those techniques to draw a plan for the Pantheon. After students have a baseline of skill with drafting, the course moves on to allow students to design a simple building, including structural and mechanical systems. Finally, they produce a plan set of their design. This course provides a foundation for students to enter the Architectural Engineering Design Sequence.
